Born in Huntington, N.Y., in 1969, Mariah Carey has become one of the pop world’s biggest divas with her steady catalog of soulful R&B and infectious pop delivered with her otherworldly powerhouse vocal abilities. In 1990, Carey released her self-titled debut, which was met with enthusiasm from both fans and critics alike following four hit singles and eventually going multi-platinum. The first act of Carey’s career was spent building a sparking catalog with massive hits born of 1991’s Emotions, 1993’s Music Box and the singer’s 1994 Christmas album, Merry Christmas, which found a new-school holiday hit in “All I Want For Christmas Is You." After a relatively unsuccessful turn at acting in 2001’s Glitter and its accompanying album of the same name, Carey took a break from the spotlight. However, she returned bigger and better than before with 2005’s The Emancipation of Mimi and a critically acclaimed role in the 2009 film, Precious. Her extraordinary vocal control and range and undeniable pop star presence has gone on to earn Carey five Grammys and solidify her place as one of the best-selling artists of all time.
